Kristiina Kumpulainen

Prof. Kumpulainen has managed a number of research and development projects focusing on the social foundations of cognition, sociocultural theories of learning and teaching, classroom interaction research, collaborative learning and problem solving processes across disciplines and age groups, technology-enriched mathematics and science education as well as on teacher learning with digital video cases. Her research programmes have been funded by the Academy Finland, the Cultural Foundation of Finland and The European Union.

Riitta Smeds

Riitta Smeds is a professor at the Helsinki University of Technology. She is the head of the Enterprise Similation Laboratory SimLab which she found in 1998. Currently she is also a senior scientist funded by the Academy of Finland.

Petri Myllymäki

Petri Myllymäki

Petri Myllymäki obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science at University of Helsinki, where he became a Docent in computer science in 1999. Dr. Myllymäki is one of the co-founders of the Complex Systems Computation (CoSCo) research group, and he has 20 years of experience in research in the area of intelligent systems. His current special research interests are focused in Bayesian and information-theoretic modeling, in particular with Bayesian networks and other probabilistic models. He has been an editorial board member, program committee member and reviewer for numerous international scientific journals, conferences and organizations, and he has published over 100 scientific articles in his research area. He is co-founder of Ekahau Inc. and has also been responsible for several applied research projects with other companies including BayesIT, M-Brain, Nokia, Elisa, Kone, StoraEnso, Space Systems Finland/European Space Agency, ABB and AlmaMedia, and the industrial co-operation has lead to a number of fielded applications and patents. Dr. Myllymäki is currently working as a professor at the Department of Computer Science of University of Helsinki, and also as a programme director at HIIT, a joint research institute of University of Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology.

Juha Kronqvist

Juha KronqvistJuha Kronqvist is completing his doctoral thesis at the Media Lab at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. His research interest is to find out how networked digital media affects the work of research groups and the culture of doing research in general.
He is responsible of the coordination activities of the VISCI Research Group.

Anna Salmi

paskva_3Anna Salmi, MA (New Media), is pursuing a doctoral degree at Aalto University. In her research she is looking into social interaction in creative co-design processes and the role of digital networked technologies in facilitating meaning making. She mainly works  in VisciTools project.

Timo Haukola

timo_128pxMr. Haukola graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2007. His master’s thesis was about group learning at the front end of innovation and he is currently preparing his doctoral dissertation that focuses on the collaborative knowledge construction in distributed teams. In addition to organizational studies and applied cognitive sciences, his interests include social psychology, badminton and electronic gadgets.

Päivi Pöyry

Päivi PöyryMrs. Pöyry-Lassila, Lic.Sc. (Tech.), M.A. (Educ.), works as a project manager, researcher, and teaching research scientist at SimLab, TKK. She is currently finalizing her Ph.D. thesis that focuses on informal learning and collaborative knowledge creation in technology-supported virtual teams. Her multi-disciplinary research interests include, e.g., the role of boundary objects in the work of virtual teams, and innovative knowledge communities and communities of practice as a structure of knowledge creation.

Mohsen Saadatmand

mohsensaadatmand128x128 Mohsen Saadatmand has a Master’s degree in educational technology and is currently doing his doctoral studies at the Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki. His main research interest is the investigation of the role of social collaborative tools and ubiquitous technologies in the process of learning, innovation and knowledge construction. His general areas of interest are: Web 2.0 tools and social web, innovative educational practices in the information and knowledge society and the impact of technology in everyday life.
